Covers for car headlamps were made compulsory during Wartime. All the light was not only reduced but also directed downwards.

• My memory is of when my father was in the war and a German Nazi aeroplane was about to bomb over him, but his headlamp covers were on his Jeep, and he thankfully was not killed.
