G.P.O. STANDARD RECEIVER No 144 & TRANSMITTER No 229, 1930's

Industry Standard telephone receiver and Transmitter, used as a reference in a laboratory. This was never intended to be on normal supply. A mystery is attached to these objects; they are dated 16th May 1950, thirty years too late! By 1950 this type of receiver and Transmitter were almost obsolete, however the GPO No 150 telephone was still in use up to the mid 1960's, so these items could still be in use in the 1950's for servicing. Their use was as a reference for all units being tested coming off the production line, every item must be equal to or better than the performance of these units.
